Days between two dates
This calculator counts the time between two dates in years, months and days, total days and weeks, and how many of those days are weekdays and weekends. It is useful for notice periods, leave, project deadlines, interest periods and countdowns.
How the difference is counted
Days = end date − start date (+1 if the end date is included)
By default the start date is counted and the end date is not, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day. Tick 'include end date' when both days count, such as for leave or a hotel booking counted by days. Years and months are calendar months, the same way age is counted. Working days are Monday to Friday; public holidays are not removed.
Things to watch
- Notice periods and leave are often counted including both the first and last day. Check how your employer or contract counts them.
- Banks count FD interest by the actual number of days, so the exact day count matters for short deposits.
- Months have different lengths, so '3 months' and '90 days' are not the same: from 1 June 2026, 90 days later is 30 August but 3 months later is 1 September.
- Leap years add 29 February; the next one is 2028.
- For your age on a given date, use the age calculator, which counts the same way.
Worked example
- From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026
- Without the end date: 364 days, or 11 months and 30 days
- Including the end date: 365 days, exactly 1 year
- Of those 365 days, 261 are weekdays and 104 are weekend days
- From 31 January to 1 March 2026 is 1 month and 1 day (29 days)
