JWT Decoder 🔑

What is a JWT?

JWT (JSON Web Token) is a compact, URL-safe means of representing claims to be transferred between two parties. It's most commonly used for authentication in modern web applications to securely share user identity.

JWT Anatomy

A JWT consists of three parts separated by dots: Header (algorithm), Payload (data/claims), and Signature (verification). Our decoder extracts and prettifies these parts without needing the secret key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. JWTs are encoded, not encrypted. Anyone who has the token can see the payload. Never store sensitive passwords or credit card info inside a JWT.
The 'exp' (Expiration Time) claim identifies the time after which the JWT must not be accepted for processing. It's represented as a Unix timestamp.
